What are rehabilitation instructional services?
Rehabilitation Instructional Services are designed to assist RSA clients in achieving their vocational or independent living goals, and to function more independently in the workplace, home and community. Focus provides a wide range of rehabilitation instructional services, including the following:
ORIENTATION AND ADJUSTMENT TO DISABILITY SERVICES
- Mentoring and other services designed to provide confidence to individuals with disabilities
- Interpersonal and disability-specific skills training
- Positive attitude toward disability
- Affirmation of possible achievement in competitive employment, community integration and independence
ORIENTATION AND MOBILITY TRAINING SERVICES
- Empower a client to safely navigate through one or more identified environments
- Provide Instruction on the use of a variety of public transportation options
INDEPENDENT LIVING SKILLS DEVELOPMENT SERVICES
- Practical life skills, education and training in the activities of daily living, personal management and household management
ADAPTIVE COMMUNICATION TRAINING SERVICES (DEAF, HARD OF HEARING)
- Instruction in American Sign Language
- To assist clients with hearing loss in acquiring vocabulary skills
- Produce and comprehend sign language as a second language
- Communicate effectively as needed to prepare for post-secondary education and training and/or obtaining gainful employment
The provision of these services will assist individuals in adjusting to living and working with a disability, enhancing the likelihood of achieving long-term success in employment, and increase independent living.
